Achieve LEED Certification with Kaiterra IAQ Monitoring

Our RESET-Certified Grade B air quality monitors are designed to help you achieve LEED Certification.

Building Certification - LEED

Through the Indoor Air Quality Performance Credit in LEED v5 O+M, you can earn a maximum of 10 points by implementing Kaiterra air quality monitoring solutions

Indoor Air Quality Performance Credit (10 Points Maximum)
Option 1
Continuous Indoor Air Monitoring

Kaiterra monitors help you continuously measure key IAQ parameters to achieve the maximum of 10 points for this credit.

PM2.5 > 15 ug/m³: 2 points
PM2.5 15 ug/m³: 3 points
PM2.5 12 ug/m³: 4 points

CO2 > 1000 ppm: 2 points
CO2 1000 ppm: 3 points
CO2 800 ppm: 4 points

TVOC Any level: 2  points

10 Points (Max)
Option 2
Targeted One-Time Air Testing

Kaiterra helps you measure the required parameters outlined by LEED and earn 2 points for this credit.

Earn 1 point for testing and meeting the minimum IAQ limit for every two parameters listed.

CO: 9 ppm and no more than 2 ppm above outdoor levels

PM2.5: 12 ug/m³ (35 ug/m³ in areas with high pollution)

PM10: 50 ug/m³

Ozone: 0.07 ppm

NO2: 40 ug/m³ (21 ppb)

TVOC: Monitored

3 Points (Max)

Frequently asked questions

Are Kaiterra monitors compliant with LEED requirements?
All of Kaiterra’s air quality monitors are RESET-Certified Grade B devices and meet all of the technical requirements for pursuing LEED Certification.
What is the measurement interval of Kaiterra devices, and does it meet LEED's requirements?
Kaiterra devices can log measurements every one minute, which is fully compliant with the measurement intervals specified by LEED.
How often are sensor modules replaced, and are certificates of calibration provided?
While LEED does not currently specify these requirements, most healthy building certifications typically require annual sensor recalibration, meaning you will need to change your sensor modules every 12 months to meet the requirements. With an innovative modular design, Kaiterra IAQ monitors can be easily recalibrated by swapping out old sensors for new ones. New sensors come with a certificate of calibration.
How many monitors do I need for LEED Certification?

The number of air quality monitors you need will, of course, depend on the specific requirements of your project. For projects to meet certification requirements, LEED recommends the following monitor density guidelines:

  • Minimum requirement:
One (1) monitor per 25,000 ft² (2,500 m²)
  • Best practice:
One (1) monitor per 5,000 ft² (500 m²)
Where should I place monitors?

Monitor placement should reflect the occupants’ experience of indoor air quality, typically mounted on a wall within the “breathing zone,” 3 to 6 feet above the floor.

It’s often recommended to install air quality monitors in open spaces and rooms that are regularly occupied. Monitors must be placed throughout the project and should be representative of all HVAC zones, building faces, and frequently used areas like lobbies, open and private office areas, and conference rooms.
